Community Art Project

posted Jan 13, 2016, 6:11 AM by rmartin@islesboro.k12.me.us
Today I will meet with Howie Montenko who is doing a project on Islesboro. We will be discussing possible locations on the island for his photo shoot that the community will ultimately choose through a voting process. I am writing this morning to ask for any ideas you may have regarding a location that is meaningful and represents our island. You can email me today and I will share your ideas at our meeting this afternoon.

This project is a community photography project, where the island residents choose a meaningful location to represent their island. Then the islanders come out at dusk and shine flashlights (light painting) on their chosen scene while I take a long exposure photograph. The process is a bit more involved and left for a future conversation.

The project goal is to complete a 'one-of-a-kind’ photograph on each of the Maine unabridged year-round islands. He has completed photographs of four islands that can be viewed at: http://paintingislands.com/gallery/

This project is funded in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
